A journey towards self-reconciliation
Heal on Purpose has undergone various iterations as an idea. However, its core mission has remained constant: to provide support for humans, particularly Black folks, as they embark on their healing journeys. Here, the term “Black” refers specifically to those born in America who identify as African American and/or Black.
Originally, “Heal on Purpose” began as a collective healing space primarily for Black women. The mission centered on addressing their unique experiences, their historical lack of bodily autonomy, and their history of sexual trauma with an aim to create resources tailored to meet their specific needs.
It then evolved into a series of classes that focused on the healing of Black individuals.
Over time, the organization evolved and broadened its scope. It now includes research and education on the extent and impact of sexual trauma within the Black community as a whole. This expanded mission highlights not only the circumstances faced by Black women but also addresses the experiences of Black men, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those serving in the military.
“Heal on Purpose” is devoted to exploring, researching, and providing resources for both collective and individual healing, always centering the unique Black experience.
Undoubtedly, this is a sensitive topic, one often shrouded in shadows and concealed in silence. Historically, Black individuals have been uncomfortable airing their struggles, preferring to navigate trauma with blinders on. However, true healing requires acknowledging and confronting these challenges, as it is both necessary and deserved.
Together, “Heal on Purpose” aims to guide people out of the shadows, fostering a sense of safety within themselves and their community, and reclaiming a collective sense of sacredness.
This mission is undeniably formidable, but its significance cannot be overstated.
Let’s lean in…
